the case of the missing girlfriend, sca recharge, some thoughts and a strange dream/reality crossover!

Bravewolf and I had to go up to Armada this weekend. By "must" I mean we had run into a old SCA friend who hadn't been to a event in years and talked him into going to the event. We had been planning to go anyways but would have felt pretty bad if he went and didn't find us there. His name in the SCA, for those who might remember him, is Kelson the Traveller. So Friday we pack up the car, hunt down the dog(who tried one of his escape acts but didn't get far) and head off about 7:30. By we I mean me, as Bravewolf had decided to ride her bike there, despite the fact that due to the lateness of our departure knew she wouldn't arrive til around 2 AM. Yes, that's right. 2 AM. So off Tierce and I go, picking up a new tent along the way, to the event. It seems to be a tradition with me too try setting up new tents in the dark. Fortunately, with kelson's help the encampment was set up swiftly and I spent the rest of the evening in good company. I finally tried lying down around 1 AM figuring Bravewold will be there soon. I wake up at 2 AM. Still no girlfriend. Hmmm. I try calling her cell. No answer. I wait another half hour. No sign. I decide to drive south, hoping to find her. Mildly panicked at this stage. Drive from Black Creek almost to Courtenay. The phone rings. It's her! turns out she made a wrong turn in Courtenay and a jogger was so very helpful with directions that she sent her all the way to the inland highway, away from the old highway til her only option was to cut inland from the new highway, hoping she was north of the site and approach from the opposite direction I was heading. I returned to the site to greet her, feeling much relieved. At 3:30 in the frigging morning! Sleep ensued.
The next day much frivolity occured, some fun games including the boat game in which Tierce was one of the boats, dragging the hull made of pool noodles around via a jerry rigged harness, hammer throwing and some heavy fighting with a new fighter which was more along the lines of some instruction as opposed to the tourney they planned. Many prizes were awarded, people introduced and Bravewolf and I were informed that the people of the Shire of Cragmere now consider us citizens of there group. We were very touched and appreciative of the welcome we received! Saturday night consisted of some dancing and general hanging out in the hall as the rain put the kibosh on the planned bardic circle but was very enjoyable notheless. Sunday consisted of some morning relaxation, final break down and hugs and farewells all around.
It wasn't til I was driving home with Tierce that I realized why I had so much fun at the event, it reminded me of the small events that I had gone to back in Seagirt back when it was just a shire. I live in Hartwood now but in many ways Seagirt will always be my home, but I noticed a change long before I moved. It seems to me that somewhere along the way some of the almost childlike fun of those days has been overshadowed by the sometimes serious business of running a Barony. I think that that business is important but I worry that for some of us it can colour or change our experience of the SCA. Maybe it's time to hold some totally fun, frivolous events again, no championship to determine, nothing worth winning or deciding, just some like minded people getting together to have fun, laugh and maybe recharge our SCA batteries, like mine feel again. I'm sure some of the other old timers like me remember those days with the fondness I do and maybe will think about ways of rediscovering those feelings and sharing that with newer people.

P.S. I had a really weird dream Friday night. It was dark when I got to the site and set up so I had no idea of the surrounding countryside and what it held. When I went to sleep I dreamed that there was a field behind my tent that was full of people camping. they all seemed to be having fun and when they saw me some waved and I think they were waving at me. In the morning as I got up to go to the hall something beyond the row of trees that marked the propery line that was behind my tent caught my eye. I moved to the trees to get a better look and realized that there was indeed a field back there...a cemetary field. It was mostly empty but the area in my dream where I saw the people was very full of markers. I was pretty unnerved by this. I mentioned this odd occurance to Lady Meredith who pointed out that at least they seemed to be having fun. there's that at least!

The last couple of weeks at work have been crazy busy. Lots of overtime and tons of projects to get done for customers. After all that I needed a weekend of some relaxation combined with some fun so Bravewolf and I headed up to Courtenay to hang with Ulric and Meredith. Had some fun doing archery and some quality hanging out time saturday. We headed back south this morning, hitting Coombs on the way back. I love grocery shopping in the market there. They get some really cool stuff in there! Bravewolf picked up some watercolour paints and gear to try out some painting. We had to be back in Nanaimo for 2 to go to fighter practice as I had been asked to help authorize a new fighter by putting him through the paces and seeing how he does. I haven't been in armour much this year and it was great to put the gear on and it was really great to work with a new fighter again. It's been a long time since I was able to do that and I'd forgotten how enjoyable that is. A good, battery recharging weekend!

KAYAKING!!!

So Julie and I went saturday and got the rest of my kayak gear. Sunday morning we headed off early to the oh so imaginatively named 1st Nanaimo lake. There's 3 other lakes 2nd, 3rd and....wait for it....4th lake. We launched from a really cute little campsite into the river just above the lake and rode the current down to the lake. The river was all swollen with the run off from the snow melt and really friggin cold. As far as my new kayak goes I love it! It's super stable with a cockpit the actually fits a larger guy like me. We paddled around till it was time for lunch, loaded up and headed into town to the Mermaids Mug for a sandwich. It's a neat little place. The menu is based on the 100 mile diet concept where they only use ingredients produced within 100 miles of the restaurant. We then decided to head to Long lake to do some more kayaking to close out the day. The only problem there was some jackass with a speedboat that kept screaming up and down the lake making a huge wake. It was WAY to much boat for a small lake. But when he stopped the lake was smooth as glass and the setting sun made things look beautiful. All in all a great way to spend a sunny long weekend day!

So after consultation with the home dialysis clinic I've discovered what the hell was going on with the fainting and such. When I went to emergency and got a prescription for antibiotics I made sure that the doctor knew and understood I have kidney failure and am on dialysis. So what does he do? Puts me on a antibiotic that my body can't flush out normally and dialysis can't touch. Yes that's right. even after i told him. So everytime I took more it just built up in my system. Fortunately I got the skinny on what was going on and stopped taking it. If the sinus infection comes back I can go on different antibiotics. Thankfully what kidney function I have left is slowly cleaning out the antibiotics and I am starting to feel better. All I can say is thanks a lot doctor. Good to know that you listen to your patients so well and check if the medications you give them are the right ones or not. If I'd blindly continued taking the antibiotics without getting a second opinion who knows what kind of a world of hurt I'd be in.

So I had a scary incident at work today. I've been of work for a few days with a flu that turned into a sinus infection. No real problem there, just got some antibiotics from the doc on thursday and was feeling fine this morning so i went to work. After about a hour I was feeling a little light headed but not too bad so I kept working. Then I bent over to pick something up and everything went gray. Next thing i knew i was on the floor wondering how the hell I got there. Needless to say i got a ride home. Looks like a few more days of rest are needed. The problem is that I go stir-crazy if I am stuck at home not working. There's not much to do here in Nanaimo and I don't know many people. I'm expecting some severe bordom for the next while.

Hey out there. been quite awhile since I posted. Things have been super busy. work is INSANE. I'm wishing I could clone myself so that I could work enough hours to keep up. My bosses are pretty accommodating when it comes to my health and any issues that come up with my kidney failure but the fact remains that things are super busy.
Julie and I are enjoying the puppy we got. Tierce is a handful at times but most of the time he is just a lot of fun to have around. I've been meaning to start going to fighter practice up here in hartwood but I keep having to work or am out of town so that isn't going well. I'm really missing armouring up and bashing away but the real world keeps getting in the way, dammit! Was hoping to make it this sunday but I have to work through the weekend. I'm still learning my way around nanaimo, have only found a few good restaraunts so far. I've been really missing some of my old haunts in victoria but the move up here was the right move for me. Anyways that's all for now folks. Take it easy and I hope to see you all soon!

got a phone call here in port albernie from bravewolf to call my sister. it turned out that my landlady had called her because my basement suite was flooded and she needed my stuff moved around. unfortunately i am up here and have no vehicle that i could use to go to victoria. many thanks to my sister Carol and brother in law John, Puck and of course Bravewolf for coming to my rescue and moving my stuff for me. it looks like the perimeter drain on the house is blocked up and the recent rains saturated things until the water started coming through the floor. damnnit. anyhow things should be safe now until i start to pack up for my move....and by the way bravewolf....i do want my leather jacket back. finders keepers doesn't count when you find it in MY apartment! (amused chuckles) thanks babe.

went to the hospital for my bi-monthly kidney clinic. the doctor is still trying to get my blood pressure down a bit. it's not too bad now, just above the high end of normal but it still needs to come down a bit. he was pondering aloud what medication to try next when he said "viagra or minoxidil. might work. which one?". thinking i had heard him wrong i mentioned they sounded just like 2 VERY popular medications for older men. turns out i hadn't heard wrong. both of these drugs are vaso-dilators. they relax your blood vessels, reducing your blood pressure. viagra, of course has the certain side effect of giving you a rock hard erection for extended periods of time. minoxidil, the active ingredient in rogaine and other hair growth creams and liquids, was originally a blood pressure medication. the hair growth is just a side effect and it works better when taken orally as opposed to just rubbing it on your scalp. however as most don't need the blood pressure lowering action the topical treatment is the safest. eventually he decided to put me on minoxidil, warning me i might see a increase in hair growth, not just on my head but everywhere. great. like i wasn't hairy enough as it was. oh well. i was getting a little thin on top anyways. kinda funny that the government is paying the cost of me taking something that men spend a ton of money to take.

well, it's been awhile since i could post as my internet connection wasn't working but here's how things stand! work continues ok. not much money but it's something. hopefully early in the new year i can get back into construction or at least find something that will pay a decent amount. according to my doctors i shouldn't expect to be able to do much but according to them i shouldn't really be able to do anything. i guess they aren't used to someone as stubborn as i am!
fighting is going well. it has been really great to be able to armour up and go bashing with the guys again! (yet another thing the docs didn't think i would be able to do! bleh to them)i still don't have even half of my old speed but it is returning. also, re-learning how to fight sword and shield is challenging me in ways i haven't been challenged in a long time fighting. thanks to all the fighters for the help and instruction. my new armour works great. totally protects my dialysis tube and exit site. loads of thanks to jackytar for giving it to me and kudos to sir Geoffry de Rennes for making such a beautiful work of art. i hope i can do it justice.
all in all things are going really well right now. money might be tight but all the important things have really come together. when i went to yule and saw friends i haven't seen in awhile they asked how things were going i could honestly say that they were going great. been a long time since i could say that. it really feels great.

well the delivery job i have taken on is going really well. really nice to have a reason again to get out of the house. not being able to work was driving me seriously insane. it is only a couple hours a day but it is a start and the extra money is great to have. last weekend i borrowed bravewolf's kayak and went for a paddle around the gorge and had a lot of fun, so much that i'm borrowing another friend's kayak and the 2 of us are going paddling again!
i also want to say to the heavy fighter community here in seagirt how touched i am with the outpouring of support i recieved last sunday when i announced i now have a steel breastplate and am going to begin to assemble a new suit of armour around it so i can fight again. when i went to fighter practice last sunday to show it i found myself leading a crowd of the guys back to my car to show it to them. instantly the questions began of what else i needed. before we had walked around the building oswyn was going to make me a curved shield and darcy was going to call a friend in vancouver about getting me some stainless shoulders to go with my stainless breastplate. and everyone made it clear that the were looking forward to me fighting again. fighting again is for me a milestone in my recovery from my kidney disease and the support i am recieving from my friends towards this goal means more than i can say. thank you all.

well things continue ok. i've been feeling better and better since i started dialysis. not up to my standards from before but much better. i no longer fall asleep if i sit down and have actually started a part time job delivering for a pharmacy. guess that makes me a drug mule now! my doc and I have been playing with my prescriptions and doses, trying to get rid of some of the more annoying side effects that i have been experiencing and it seems to be working. i found out last week that i am going to be trained to use the overnight cycler next month. i go in on my birthday so i guess i will look at it as a birthday present for me! what it does is free me from doing my dialysis manually during the day. instead of dializing every 4 hours i will just do it in my sleep. on average this will save me about 3 hours a day so it's a good thing. hopefully if it all works out and continue to get better then i will be able to get a real job again and make some good money. it has been really frustrating knowing the skills in construction that i have been gaining over the last 20 odd years are going to waste just when they are in higher demand then ever before. i'm hoping to start some part time work, maybe do some small kitchen and bathroom renos to get started and work my way back to full time. wish me luck.

and maybe if i feel better enough i can armour up again and once more take the field and crack some skulls!

Based on the results of this test, it is highly likely that:

You prefer your romance and love to wild and daring rather than typical or boring, you would rather pursue than be pursued and, when it comes to physical love, you concentrate more on enjoying the experience rather than worrying about your performance.

This places you in the Lover Style of: The Carnal Lover.

The Carnal Lover is a wonderful Lover Style, though it is often confused with terms like "player" or even "slut." The Carnal Lover is not necessarily either of those things (though sometimes is) but is instead a lover of life, romance and pleasure. The Carnal Lover is a treasure to find, though can sometimes be difficult to keep happy once found, because a Carnal Lover often loves a variety-filled life.

In terms of physical love, the Carnal Lover tends to be dynamic and driven, and can therefore be quite pleasurable. Given the right motivation, and the right lover, the Carnal Lover can be a delight in bed.

Best Compatibility can probably be found with: The Surprising Lover (most of all) or the Devoted Lover, or the Liberated Lover.

Congratulations!

If you enjoyed this test, I would love the feedback!
